This helicopter allows the customer to benefit from the birotor engines advantages. Developed and produced by the COMOTOR, a European company of motor engines' construction founded by Citroën companies and NSU in 1967. This Wankel type engine with rotary piston offers advantages in term of power, lightness and adaptability to aeronautical use. Unfortunately, this technology was not compatible with the oil crisis of the 1970s. The famous French engineer Charles Marchetti, father of Alouette II and Super Frelon was hired in 1972. Launched in 1973, the RE2 conducted its first flight on December 24, 1975 on the test site of La Ferté Vidame. The project was stopped on May 5, 1979.
